CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

Two men were charged with stealing mail Tuesday in the Humboldt Park neighborhood.

Officers responded to a call about 2:30 p.m. of two men removing mail from a postal truck in the 2900 block of West Division Street, police said.

Based upon witnesses' description, officers canvassed the area and curbed the suspects' vehicle in the 1600 block of North Kimball Avenue, police said.

The two men were arrested after witnesses positively identified them, police said.

John Merritt, 29, of the 1500 block of West Clarence Avenue in Berwyn, was charged with one felony count of theft, police said.

Kevin Jones, 34, of the 3800 block of West Ohio Street, was charged with one felony count of theft and issuance of warrant, police said.

The stolen mail was found inside a black duffle bag that was discarded in the 1600 block of North Kimball Avenue, police said.

Both men are expected in bond court Thursday.
