Mesa Police make arrest in tire slashing case

Posted: Updated:
MESA, Ariz. -

Mesa police say they have made an arrest in connection with the slashing of tires on at least 17 vehicles at an apartment complex.

Police Sgt. Tony Landato says officers initially took two men into custody after a woman reported seeing a man slashing her vehicle's tires Wednesday morning.

One of the men had a cut on his hand and police say a bloody knife was found along the path that the suspects had run.

Landato says 22-year-old Nicholas James Rourke confessed to slashing numerous tires. The intoxicated Rourke told authorities he did it because he was upset over losing some money and that he had cut his hand while slashing the tires.

Police say the other man who was taken into custody was released pending further investigation.
