EAST BRUNSWICK, N.J. (AP) - Two central New Jersey teens were killed when their car ran off the roadway and overturned in a wooded area.

East Brunswick police tell The Home News Tribune (http://mycj.co/1dJC4uk) that both the driver, 17-year-old Jeffrey Szatkowski of Spotswood, and his 18-year-old passenger, Nicole Surace of Milltown, had to be extricated from the vehicle.

Both died a short time later at a hospital.

It's not yet known what caused the crash, which occurred around 7:50 p.m. Saturday on Dutch Road, near Fresh Ponds Road. Authorities say the southbound vehicle ran off the roadway and struck a telephone pole, then overturned in a wooded area before striking a tree and landing on its roof.

It does not appear that any other vehicles were involved in the accident.
