Chicago adding three more speed cameras

Posted: Updated:
CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

Lead-footed drivers beware: Beginning Saturday, the city is activating three more speed cameras.

If you speed in "children's safety zones" near Humboldt, Douglas and Major Taylor Trail parks, you could end up with a ticket as high as $100, the Chicago Sun-Times is reporting.

The cameras, which enforce speed limits only when parks are open, are located at: 3100 W. Augusta Blvd.; 2900 W. Ogden Ave.; and 445 W. 127th St.

Initially, the city will only be issuing tickets for speeders going 10 or more mph over the posted speed limit.

Last week, the city announced that at speed cameras located in four neighborhood parks, the number of "recorded speeding events" dropped by about two-thirds from the first week of warnings to the third week of ticketing.

To date, the city has his issued some 3,000 tickets.
