Walmart Shopper In NJ Gets Pepper Sprayed During Dispute

Posted: Updated:
GARFIELD, N.J. -

Tempers flared Thursday night at a Walmart in New Jersey, ending in one man's arrest.

It happened Thanksgiving night when shoppers headed to stores, hoping to be the first at those holiday bargains.

A customer at a Garfield Walmart had a heated disagreement with store management. Store officials asked the man to leave. When he refused, they called police.

But when cops arrived, the customer allegedly attacked an officer.

"He was unhappy with the manager, and with the way the store was running the sale," Garfield police Sgt. Michael Marsh said. "He struck him in the chest and went to grab him to, what appeared to be like, tackle him."

Shopper Wendy Gruenewald said, "He's an idiot. He shouldn't have done that. It's a TV for Christ's sakes."

That suspect, identified as a 23-year old man, had to be subdued with pepper spray before he was arrested.
