Freedom Ship, Seeking To Build Floating City

Posted: Updated:

How would you like to live on a floating island, traveling around the world? The Freedom Ship hopes to make that a reality.

The massive ship is 25 stories high and could house 50,000 people. It is four times longer than the Queen Mary, according to the official site. It will have a casino, art gallery, park, a shopping center, a hospital and a school.

The Freedom Ship was designed by a Florida company and would cost ten billion dollars to build.

The company wants to sail it around the world, doing a full circuit every two years.

"Freedom Ship would not be a cruise ship, it is proposed to be a unique place to live, work, retire, vacation, or visit. The proposed voyage would continuously circle the globe, covering most of the world's coastal regions," the website says.

The company has begun raising one billion dollars to begin construction.

Other people have had similar projects. The Seasteading Institute Institute seeks to establish autonomous, seaborn platforms on international waters.
