Michigan spared weather woes for Thanksgiving

Posted: Updated:
ROMULUS, Mich. (WJBK) -

Michigan travelers were finding minimal trouble embarking on their Thanksgiving destinations despite nasty weather snagging holiday plans elsewhere.

Travelers found minimal delays or cancellations Wednesday morning at Detroit Metropolitan Airport and on Amtrak routes. Travelers tell FOX 2 they experienced a 15-minute wait at security lines. "I'm shocked," said one passenger. "I thought I'd be running into lines and crowds."

Bob Ball with TSA reminds travelers, however, to still give themselves extra time to get to the airport.

Track flights and airport delays here.

An estimated 1.3 million Michigan residents hitting the road, rail or air were finding largely dry conditions but cold temperatures in the state.

That contrasts with bands of ice, sleet and rain barreling over the mid-Atlantic and Northeast -- though they weren't causing widespread delays or cancellations beyond the region to other parts of the network.
