$250K bond for suspect in Tilted Kilt stabbing case

Posted: Updated:

PHOENIX (AP) - Bond has been set at $250,000 for a man accused of fatally stabbing another employee at a downtown Phoenix restaurant.

Maricopa County prosecutors say 23-year-old Javier Alonzo Romero has his initial court appearance Tuesday.

He's being held on suspicion of second-degree murder and aggravated assault on a police officer.

Police say Romero tried to grab the gun of a police officer while being treated later at a hospital for cuts to his arm.

Romero allegedly attacked another kitchen worker at the Tilted Kilt before the restaurant opened Monday morning. The motive for the stabbing remains unclear and Romero doesn't have a lawyer yet.

Authorities say 26-year-old Miguel Angel Hernandez was declared dead at the scene. He had worked at the downtown restaurant since it opened about three years ago.

A booking photo of Romero has not been released.
