Best Buy shoppers camp in line week before Thanksgiving deals

Posted: Updated:

We're three days from Thanksgiving, four days away from Black Friday and shoppers who are looking to score the best bargains at Best buy have already been in line for days.

The stormy weather Arizona had over the last few days didn't faze the woman who pitched a  tent outside a Best Buy near 83rd Avenue and Bell.

She's been out there since Thursday night and the guy who pitched his tent next to hers has been out there since Saturday night.

Are the Black Friday bargains here at best buy worth it?

They think so.

"I have a sleeping bag, two very warm blankets, a comforter and a snuggy," said Ashley Bowers.

Bowers calls it urban camping.

She's slept outside Best Buy the last four nights, even through the pouring rain.

"It was a little intimidating. We had towels on the floor. I had to take them home and wash them to absorb the water that got through the bed, kept us dry. We just huddled up and watched movies," said Bowers.

Neither mother nature, or rude people, will get her to give up her place in line.

"Somebody went by earlier and kicked the tent, thinking I was in it. People are crazy," said Bowers.

She and her neighbor look out for each other.

"It's just like camping. As long as you're friendly with all the people, then it's all good," said Salvador Sanchez.

It's become an annual tradition for these two. They camped out at this Best Buy last year.

They're guaranteed to snag pricey electronics for cheaper, like brand new TVs for $169 , laptops for $177, and iPads for $300.

"I do it for family. It's all about giving. It's all about the holidays. Yeah, it's fun," said Sanchez.

But this year, there's a new twist that's changing things up a bit: doors will open at 6 p.m. Thanksgiving night, instead of midnight.

"I do not like that Best Buy made it on Thursday. Black Friday is supposed to be on Friday. We used to eat dinner out here on Thursday, now we're going to do it on Wednesday," said Bowers.

She doesn't mind having her Thanksgiving meal with her mother and boyfriend in this urban campground.

She's already weathered the storm, all she has to do now is wait it out until the doors open up to black Friday deals.

"I don't just do it for the sales, it's kind of fun," said Bowers.

These shoppers aren't alone in their urban camping adventure.

People across the country, in places like Ohio and Virginia, are also already camping out in front of Best Buy.

Here in the valley, campers are also out in front of the Best Buy in Goodyear.
