Middle School Teacher's Rant Causes Outrage

Posted: Updated:

A lot of people are talking about a Facebook video that appears to show a Pike County, Kentucky teacher who has some tough words for her students.

The teacher allegedly says:

All you do is waste space. You're just taking up space. You're breathing air somebody else could benefit from. You need to stay home and be home-schooled. People got big old f's in my room. They're lucky if they have a three percent, three percent! Don't do diddly squat!

The woman talking in the video is a Belfry Middle School teacher who seems to be upset with her students over their grades. However, one of the student's parents felt that the teacher took things too far.

Ariana Hackney posted the video on Facebook because she says she was frustrated and angry.

"I would like to see a safe environment for our kids; no child should fear their teacher," Hackney said, "because no child, period, anywhere should be called a waste of space or waste of oxygen."

In just a few days' time, the video went viral, with thousands of "shares" on Facebook.

The video has also gotten the attention of school district officials. Pike County Schools Superintendent David Lester would not comment on whether any action was taken against the teacher.

"This is certainly out of character for that teacher. She is a young teacher and she's relatively new to teaching the education profession and we will work with the situation to make sure it doesn't happen again," he said.

Video games may be pure fantasy, but a violent action-adventure game called "Watch Dogs" has ignited a very real debate in one South Jersey community. Watch Dog allows players to adopt the persona of a James Bond-like computer hacker, chasing an evil mastermind. People say it's chock-full of foul language, sex and violence, features dark and foreboding backdrops. The latest version, which is due out this fall may be set in Camden.
