Bear Spotted In Bucks County

Posted: Updated:
BUCKS COUNTY, Pa. -

A resident is getting a lot of attention in Bucks County. A bear has been spotted in Solebury Township.

Authorities are now warning people in the area to be on the lookout. FOX 29's Dave Kinchen went to check things out.

Residents of Solebury Township say they've seen a lot of wildlife over the years. After all this is a wooded area but we talked to one woman that said it took several years for her to finally see a bear,

Elaine Rydberg remembers her reaction Saturday afternoon when this big beast came roaming on through.

"Oh my God! Oh my God! There's a bear out there," Rydberg said. "I was looking out the kitchen window and just saw it ambling down the yard to the back yard."

She grabbed her camera and snapped away and apparently during its dinner time you see it going after her tall bird feeder…even knocking it down.

"He was really enjoying himself. Very docile but I don't think you can trust them. You have to be careful so we didn't approach him" Rydberg said.

Not unlike a human it even crashed after a big meal.

Of course it didn't bother cleaning up either. Bears have been reported in Bucks County before, but this is still a first for many we talked with.

If this one ever comes back, Elaine Rydberg says they'll be on a first name basis.

"We'll call him Smoky," Rydberg said,

We checked in with the PA Game Commission. They say the bear most likely swam over from New Jersey across the river. They have not had any other related sightings. They say if you see a bear, do not approach it, and just walk away slowly.
