WALESKA, Ga. (AP) - Relatives of a 66-year-old woman who was burned in a house fire are calling the woman a hero for helping her family escape the blaze that destroyed their Cherokee County home.

Fire investigators say Christine Phyfe was able to get her three grandchildren and her husband out of the house but was badly burned and is in serious condition at Grady Memorial Hospital.

Authorities told FOX 5 News there were no working smoke detectors in the home and the family didn't have renter's insurance.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
