Will County government workers may strike

Posted: Updated:

JOLIET, Ill. (AP) — Government workers in one of Illinois' most-populous counties could strike Monday over contract negotiations

Members of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees Local 1028 have been negotiating a contract with Will County officials for 15 months. Talks last week didn't produce a contract.

Union officials say they're moving ahead with plans for a strike Monday morning that could affect about 1,000 workers. However, a federal mediator has been assigned to the dispute for months and could call the sides back together to avert a strike.

Local 1028 president Dave Delrose says the issues are pay and health insurance payments. However, county officials say they've compromised and the union is unwilling to move forward.

Union employees include workers in the county's court system and health department.
