12th Annual PAWS Fur Ball raises money for homeless pets

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

From the streets to the red carpet, dogs of all sizes lined up with their owners to raise money for a furry cause at the 12th Annual PAWS Fur Ball Friday evening.

Many of the dogs were rescues themselves and the event was about pampering the pooches and raising money for the city's largest no-kill shelter.

PAWS rescue dog Bella has been through a lot. Homeless after a massive tornado ripped through Oklahoma City, Bella was also shot by a shotgun. PAWS brought her along with many other dogs and cats to Chicago in hopes of finding a permanent home.

Bella found that in Melissa and Ben.

"As you can imagine, you see a cute dog and after you foster for about a week, you're like ok, she'll be a part of the family," Ben Borstein says.

Bella's story is like so many others at PAWS Chicago and Friday night's Fur Ball at the Drake Hotel set out to help fund the no-kill shelter.

"We all love our pets and this gives everybody an opportunity to really love and enjoy their pets, but also help those that don't have fabulous families to take care of them, to worry about their future," PAWS Chicago founder Paula Fasseas explains. "This event really helps fund a large part of our operating budget every year."

Dogs and their owners hit the red carpet in style. Some even got dressed up for the occasion; other dogs were treated to pampering which included doggie massages.

As for Bella, she shined as she strolled through the Drake Hotel. Ben and Melissa couldn't be more proud of their newest family member.

25 adoptable dogs also made an appearance at the ball. For more information on how you can adopt a pet, visit PAWS Chicago website.
