DETROIT, Mich. (WJBK) -

Detroit police, along with several other law enforcement agencies, conducted a massive raid Friday near the Detroit riverfront on the city's east side that resulted in the arrest of 32 people. Detroit Police Chief James Craig says ATF Police, border patrol, immigration and U.S. Marshalls. He adds this is the largest raid the department has conducted in at least 20 years.

The bulk of the raid, involving over 150 officers, took place at two apartment buildings near the 9300 block of Jefferson.

Chief Craig says the area is one of the most problematic in the city with over 600 disturbance calls coming from the apartment buildings this year alone. "This is the new DPD," said Craig. "We're about getting it done. Not only are we driving crime down, but we're responding to community complaints."

Residents cheered as officers walked suspects out in handcuffs and placed them in an awaiting police bus. Several also shook hands with the chief and thanked him for taking action.

Fox 2's Charlie LeDuff was there and asked the chief, "Good people are watching this and are happy; bad people are watching this - what do you say?"

Chief Craig responds: "I say, not in Detroit. The day has come and gone. You had your time - it's over. This is the city of Detroit, and we are winning."
