UFCs Sonnen Weighs In On MIA Bullying Scandal

Posted: Updated:

Days before his co-main event fight at UFC 167, Chael Sonnen weighed in on the bullying scandal that has rocked the Miami Dolphins.

Known as a brash and outspoken fighter, Sonnen was instead thoughtful and reserved when discussing the relationship between Richie Incognito and Jonathan Martin.

"Jonathan Martin did the right thing," Sonnen said. "You don't to look any further than the Bible.  You turn the other cheek and you walk away from a situation.  And you've seen plenty of people diffuse a situation far less maturely than he did.  He turned and he walked away."

While he lauded Martin, Sonnen was quick to point out that he needed more information before passing judgment on Incognito.

"There's no hero in this story but I'm not certain there's a villain either," Sonnen said.

"There's a significant difference in teasing and hazing," Sonnen said.  "Playful words versus threatening and scaring a guy and it comes down to intent.  If they set out to scare him, I don't like it.  If you're going to pick on a guy, go right ahead, just make sure they're bigger and tougher than you and I'm fine with it."

Sonnen is preparing to fight a friend and co-worker in Rashad Evans, a man he has gotten to know well during their time together as analysts on UFC-related programming on FOX Sports.

"Really I'm just anti-bullying," Sonnen said. "I hate guys that only pick on people that they know they can beat, you got to fight them all.  If another guy's better you got to go take your beating like a man."
