Four robberies reported at Southwest Side cell phone stores

Police are cautioning business owners after four robberies took place in Southwest Side cell phone stores since early October.

In each robbery, a man has displayed a handgun, taking phones and cash before running away, according to an alert issued by Area Central detectives.

Two robberies happened in the 6200 block of South Western Avenue, one about 12:18 p.m. on Oct. 8 and the other about 11:30 a.m. Nov. 8, the alert said.

Another robbery happened in the 2400 block of West 51st Avenue about 11:10 a.m. Nov. 4, the alert said.

The most recent robbery took place in the 3100 block of South Ashland Avenue about 9:05 a.m. Nov. 11, the alert said.

The suspect is described as a black man between 20-25 years old, between 5-foot-8 and 6-foot-3, weighing between 150-200 pounds. He may have a tattoo on his face, police said.
