2nd Death Of Vineland Freshman In Less Than 2 Weeks

Posted: Updated:

Students and staff at Vineland High School are mourning the second death of a teenager in less than two weeks.

14-year-old freshman Jermire Lowery was killed in a car crash last night.

The accident happened just before 8 PM Monday. Police say Lowery was inside a Chevy Malibu along with 4 other juveniles. His family says it was his 17 year old uncle driving and that he swerved to avoid hitting a deer.

Last night's death comes less than two weeks after another Vineland student, Alexa Strittmatter. She was killed in a pedestrian accident.

The freshman was struck by two cars crossing South Main Road while walking to her bus stop.

School officials said they were devastated by Jermire's death.

"This is an unimaginable tragedy," said Dr. Gruccio, superintendent of schools, in a news release. "The loss of any student is heartbreaking. But two, in this short period of time, is unthinkable."

Police are still investigating the cause of the crash.
