Gina's People: So Cal Harvest - Food Finders

Posted: Updated:
Long Beach, CA -

Do you have backyard fruit? Wanna donate it? Cindy Goss is ready to pick it up.

Goss hits the streets of Long Beach looking for fruits and vegetables. She is on a mission to rescue produce before it goes to waste.

She runs an organization called 'SoCal Harvest". With the help of volunteers, they go to people's homes and pick all the fruits and vegetables  that people don't want. She says, "We need to get the word out to people to share what you have. Don't let the birds have it. Don't let the squirrels have it.  Nobody in Long Beach should go hungry. There's plenty of food here to feed everyone."   All of the fruits and vegetables that Cindy collects goes to 'Food Finders', a non profit organization that gives food to the homeless and families in need.

If you have produce you would like to get rid of, you can contact Cindy at Socalharvest.org or contact Foodfinders.org

Every week we recognize a FOX 11/GDLA viewer who is making a difference in the community. Submit your suggestions to Gina Silva. She does these segments every Monday morning.
