MCHENRY, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

A northwest suburban man has been arrested in Las Vegas after the caretaker for his McHenry County home discovered the body of a woman, which may have been inside the house for more than 18 months.

McHenry County Sheriff's officers were called Wednesday to a home at 518 N. Country Club Rd. in unincorporated McHenry after skeletal remains were discovered inside, a statement from the sheriff's office said.

The caretaker told police the home has not been lived in for more than 18 months, the statement said. The caretaker was paid to maintain the exterior of the property, but he called police after finding the remains inside.

A Thursday autopsy by the McHenry County Coroner's office revealed the victim was an adult female, though no positive identification, nor cause of death, had been determined as of Friday morning, according to police.

At about 12:30 p.m. Thursday, 62-year-old William J. Ross was taken into custody by Las Vegas, Nev., police and the U.S. Marshal Service on a McHenry County warrant charging concealment of a homicidal death, according to the sheriff's office.

Ross, homeowner of the Country Club Road property, remains in custody Friday at the Clark County Correctional Facility in Las Vegas, pending extradition to McHenry County. The warrant carried a $100,000 bond for the Class 3 felony charge.

Sheriff's deputies and the coroner's office continue to investigate the victim's identity and the circumstances of the death. Police said additional charges are possible.
