DC to introduce bill to raise smoking age to 21

Posted: Updated:

The smoking age in the District is being challenged.

Currently 18 is the legal age to purchase tobacco products, however, the D.C. Council will introduce a bill to raise it to 21.

Councilmember Kenyan McDuffie wants to combat health risks caused by the use of tobacco products.

The same age restriction was just approved by the New York City Council and the mayor there says he will sign it into law.
