Jason Derulo: There Was No Choice, I Didn't Have A Backup Plan

Posted: Updated:

"What we have is a beautiful thing...there's no need to rush."

That's singer Jason Derulo talking about his girlfriend Jordin Sparks and his latest single "Marry Me". In the video, Jason pops the question to Jordin and she says yes. So, the first thing Steve and Maria wanted to know was how close is this to real life?

"As you can see, I never actually put the ring on the finger though...I will yeah. I did want it to be very realistic so like that's why I never put the ring on the finger...in the song I say 'when the time is right, I swear that I'll mean it when I say will you marry me."

Steve surprised Jason by playing a clip of Jordin when she was on Good Day LA last month.

He also talked about going all in on his dream of becoming a famous singer.

"I didn't have a backup plan, it was all or nothing for me since I was five years old. I always wanted to do this specific thing so I chased it my whole life."

And exactly how did he chase it? Jason told Steve and Maria he used his head before using his voice.

"I was trying to work with these different producers and they didn't even want to work with me because I was a nobody at that point, so I posed as a songwriter. I'm like 'hey, let's write a song for Usher, let's write a song for this person' and they were like all right and they started letting me into the studio."

Jason's EP "Tattoos" is out now and the single "Trumpets" will be the next track released off it.
