Washington Gridlock

Kevin Hale, KTTV Vice President & General Manager Kevin Hale, KTTV Vice President & General Manager

The gridlock in Washington that we have experienced in recent years, and in the past few weeks, is completely unacceptable.

After reaching a last minute compromise on re-opening the government and raising the debt ceiling, the impact from this debacle will be felt throughout the world for years to come.

The government's failure to reach a timely agreement literally brought the US to the brink of financial disaster. Our fragile economic recovery has been seriously damaged.

I'd like to hear your Point of View. Send me an email at POV@fox11.com

It makes us all wish we had a politician's reset button that we could push and throw many of them out of office.

Well in fact we do, the American people can demand that Washington politicians support term limits.

Some may say, well we have elections where we can vote them out of office. This is true but the sad reality is that 85% of incumbent politicians will continue to be re-elected for years to come.

Old animosities that have caused political Armageddon under the current system will just continue.

Congressional office holders-- including the congressional leaders that have caused this current meltdown --should be swept out of office.

They have been in power far too long and fresh ideas and new energy is desperately needed.

Elected office should not be a job for life.

Speaker of the House John Boehner has been in office 22 years and House Minority leader, Nancy Pelosi has been in office 26 years. Senate Majority Leader, Harry Reid has been in for 26 years and Mitch McConnell, Senate Minority leader, 28 years.

Term limits is the broom that can sweep Congress clean.

Senator David Vitter of Louisiana and Representative Matt Salmon of Arizona have recently introduced term limit bills.

Our politicians should rise to the occasion, be statesman and support term limits by getting behind these bills.

There is no time to waste.

Thanks for listening.

This week we want to make a federal case for Joseph (1998) finding a forever family, so we obtained the necessary clearances to accompany Joseph to the Los Angeles Division of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). And during our friendly investigation, we found Joseph to be a dynamic teen with a good bit of focus and determination for someone his age.

California motorists are burdened with the highest gas tax in the nation: 71 cents for every gallon of gas purchased. If that was not enough, along comes AB-32 that mandates that vehicle fuel production will be, in effect, taxed beginning in 2015.

Recently, Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Rolf M. Treu ruled that teacher tenure statutes -- violate the California state constitution. In the landmark case "Vergara v. California," Judge Treu held that tenure makes it almost impossible to fire incompetent teachers.
