Fairfax County police have identified a 28-year-old man who was shot and killed by officers after police say he started a fight at a homeless shelter.
Police say James Bryant, who lived in the shelter near Fort Belvoir, was the man killed by officers. Police say Bryant was assaulting other residents when officers arrived on Wednesday. Police say he got hold of an officer's baton and beat another officer with it before he was shot. Police say they tried to use non-deadly force but were unable to stop the assault before one of the officers opened fire.
Both officers involved in the shooting have been placed on routine administrative leave. The one who was struck by the baton was treated at a hospital.
