DPTP Adds To K-9 Units

K9 Rebel with Officer Tirado K9 Rebel with Officer Tirado

The Deptford Township Police department added two new dogs to its K-9 unit.

K-9 Titan and K-9 Rebel will be joining the team and replace K-9 Aron, a veteran near retirement. K-9 Rebel got his name after a vote by fifth grade students in a school that in which handling officer Michael Tirado was teaching DARE.

The two German Shepherd/Belgian Malinois canines will start training with their officers in January in Atlantic County.

Chief William Hanstein stated, "[T]he new additions to our K-9 Unit will further demonstrate our commitment to public safety."

    A spokesperson for PECO confirms to Fox 29 News that crews are trying to find the source of a gas odor that has resulted in hundreds of calls to PECO on Saturday.About 400 calls have been placedto PECO as of 4pm Saturday; that is an elevated number of calls than a normal day, the spokesperson says.     The rest of the holiday weekend continues to look warmer and unsettled. Shower and thunderstorm chances increase late Sunday and Labor Day.
