Prince George’s County police are searching for a suspect involved in two separate sexual assaults in Hyattsville.

Police say the assaults started at around 1:15 p.m. Tuesday near Belcrest and Adelphi Roads.

In the first incident, a man with a handgun approached two women in their 20s.

"Leaving an apartment building, [the victims] walked passed a man, who then turned and followed them into the woods," said Prince George's County spokesperson Julie Parker. "He attempted to rob them and began sexually assaulting one of the women. At that point, he heard sounds in the woods, which scared him, and he took off running."

"A few minutes later, at about a few 100 yards away, he came across another group of people -- two males and one female," Parker continued. "He robbed that group and sexually assaulted one of the females in that group. Once again, he fled."

Authorities say the second group approached by the suspect were teenagers.

The victims have been taken to area hospitals and are speaking with detectives.

Officers and K-9 units have been searching the area for the suspect.

The suspect is described as a Hispanic male, around 30 years old, 5’6” to 5’10” tall with a slim build. He was last seen wearing camouflage pants and a red baseball cap with black or blue brim.
