Couples more likely to divorce if friends do

Posted: Updated:

A new study suggests that if a family member or close friend gets a divorce that increases your chances of doing so as well.

The study from Brown University looked at nearly 30 years of marriage data and found that 75 percent of couples were more likely to divorce if their friends did.

Couples are 33 percent more likely to do so if a friend of a friend member did.

Experts call the idea a social contagion and say social media has a big impact on someone's attitudes towards divorce.
