'Killing Kennedy' movie premieres at the Newseum

Posted: Updated:

The Newseum rolled out the red carpet for the world premiere of National Geographic Channel's highly anticipated “Killing Kennedy” Monday night.

The movie was filmed in just 18 days, and according to the cast and crew, the biggest challenge was portraying real-life events that played out in the public eye.

Actor Rob Lowe stars as John F. Kennedy along with actress Ginnifer Goodwin as the former First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis.

The film details the events leading up to the assassination of the President and then the aftermath. It focuses on the Oswald family along with the Kennedys.

Actor Will Rothhaar spoke about taking on the role of Lee Harvey Oswald: "I wanted to paint a more human side of him. I wanted people to see the seeds that were planted that made him the person he was."

Actress Michelle Tractenberg plays his wife, Marina Oswald.

Lowe told FOX 5, "I think it's so compelling to take these two very different men, Lee Harvey Oswald and JFK, meet them on the same day, and then follow them until they meet very tragically in Dallas."

"I think it's a very unsettling, suspenseful storytelling device,” he continued.

Fox News Channel's Bill O'Reilly co-authored the book “Killing Kennedy: The End of Camelot,” which the film is based on.

The movie airs November 10 on the National Geographic Channel.
