PHOENIX -

It's a tale of two friends who lost touch 62 years ago.  They met in Marine boot camp, served in World War II, lost touch and now have become friends again, right here in Phoenix.

A friendship that survived war and like a Phoenix, rose again right here in the valley of the sun.

"I saw his name and thought, could that be the same John Farnam that I was in the squad with for six months?" said Dr. Tom Edwards.

They were both Marines in boot camp, served in World War II -- one in Okinawa and the other in Iwo Jima.  They lost touch and then met again at the Terraces Dinner Hall in Phoenix.

"It was amazing to see him because I hadn't seen anybody that I'd been in boot camp with ever," said Edwards.

Now both are doctors thanks the the military G.I. bill and both treated people here in the valley for many years.  Farnam in Mesa, Edwards in Phoenix.

"Radiologist and the internist didn't see a whole lot of each other," said Dr. John Farnam.

They had never seen one another again until now and never lost their sense of humor.

62 years later, they're learning about how similar their lives really are.  They both married women named Dottie, they're both doctors and both now call Phoenix home.

"We see each other periodically and we get together and discuss things and say hello to each other," said Edwards.

They've become new friends again.
