Protesters call for Redskins name change at Sunday's game in Denver

Posted: Updated:
WASHINGTON -

Before Washington’s football game in Denver, the Redskins were greeted by protesters.

Members of the ''American Indian Movement Colorado'' and ''Idle No More'' gathered outside the stadium to protest the team's name and mascot.

They say the name is racist and are asking Colorado news and sports journalists to ban the word from their reporting.

They say they should simply call them ''The team from Washington D.C.''

The Oneida Indian nation, which is scheduled to meet with NFL officials on Wednesday, paid for advertisements to air on radio stations in Denver prior to the game.
