NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

A commercial airline painted red with an FDNY theme flew over the Hudson River from the Verrazano Bridge to the George Washington Bridge Wednesday morning.

The JetBlue plane conducted the ceremonial flight in honor of the FDNY Foundation at about 7:20 a.m. at approximately 2,000 feet. The organization is the official not-for-profit of the Fire Department of New York City and the professional development, training and education of FDNY members.

"Like all New Yorkers, we have a special place in out hearts for the brave men and women of the New York City Fire Department. In fact, many of them are family; around 250 of our crew members are former FDNY!," said JetBlue via its blog.

The plane arrived into New York City airspace from Roswell, New Mexico where it had been painted red, added JetBlue. There were no passengers on-board

The Airbus A 320 airliner was scheduled to land at JFK Airport for an on-site ceremony.
