Young Mother Killed In Car Crash In Northeast Philadelphia

Posted: Updated:

The debris at a deadly car crash scene tells just how violent the impact was. A license plate, sneakers and a child car seat were left burned on the ground.

"The front of the car was already engulfed. People were screaming for fire extinguishers. I was on the phone at the same time calling the cops," recalls Lynn Polasik. She was leaving a gym near Red Lion Road and Haldeman Avenue in the Northeast when she says she heard what she describes as speeding cars. She says she looked up to see two Mercury Marquis going in the same direction toward the Boulevard.

"At that moment two cars collided. The car in the left lane clipped the car in the right lane. It spiraled out of control and went into the tree. The car was mangled," said Polaski.

Investigators believe just after 11 Monday night one car hit the median then the two cars collided sending one crashing into a tree. Witnesses helped get out the driver of that car who suffered a fractured leg and a one year old in the back seat. But the front passenger 22-year old Anna Marie Drummond was killed. She was trapped and the car burst into flames.

"There was no way to get to her through that door," said Polasik.

The other car also had three people in it including a one year old who suffered a cut lip, the driver and passenger were not hurt.

Captain John Wilczynski with Philadelphia  Police Accident Investigations Division said, "Speed may have been a factor but we're not sure right now."

Investigators say they are looking into whether speed or street racing may have caused the crash.

The victim's father told Fox 29 they plan to raise Anna Marie's child.
