Fox 2 has confirmed a Detroit police officer was hit by a black Jeep Liberty at Eastern Market near Russell Street and Mack Avenue. It happened Tuesday night at approximately 9:15.

Two officers were conducting a traffic stop when the vehicle began to flee the scene. The vehicle struck one of the officers while driving away. At least one shot was then fired by an officer but it did not hit the vehicle or any other person.

The injured officer was then taken to Detroit Receiving Hospital where he is listed in temporary-serious condition. He is expected to recover and may even be released from the hospital as early as late Tuesday night or early Wednesday morning. We're told the officer was able to walk into the hospital when he arrived for treatment.

Fellow officers spotted the jeep less than three miles away on Van Dyke Avenue and have three people in custody now. Initial reports suggested four people were inside the vehicle at the time, but police now say all suspects - two males and one female - are in custody Tuesday night.
