Cuccinelli: Outsiders trying to trump Va. voters

Republican Ken Cuccinelli is warning supporters their votes could be overpowered by out-of-state interest groups, including New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg's anti-handgun effort.

Cuccinelli on Tuesday told supporters in the southern edge of his state that Bloomberg's PAC was dumping $1 million on ads during the campaign's final two weeks. The GOP attorney general says that Virginians should decide their governor, not outsiders like Bloomberg and Bill and Hillary Rodham Clinton. The Clintons support his Democratic rival, Terry McAuliffe.

Bloomberg's PAC is spending more than $1.1 million on ads that brand Cuccinelli "too extreme for Virginia."

Cuccinelli is getting help from outsiders, too, though. Rep. Paul Ryan of Wisconsin — who was Mitt Romney's running mate in 2012 — planned to join Cuccinelli on a conference call with reporters later in the day.
