The Long Beach Police Department is asking for the public's help in identifying a female suspect caught on video, who is wanted in connection with an attempted robbery to a Yellow Cab taxi driver.
On Thursday, September 26, 2013, at approximately 3:15 a.m., Long Beach Police responded to Anaheim Street and Redondo Avenue in regards to a robbery call.
Officers began investigating and determined that a taxi driver had picked up the suspect in the area of 7th Street and Termino Avenue, and drove her to 14th Street and Newport Avenue. Before getting out of the cab, the suspect reached through the glass divider, threatened the driver with a box cutter, and demanded money. As the driver struggled with the suspect, the suspect produced a hammer and attempted to strike the driver in the face. At that time, the driver accelerated his vehicle forward for a distance before colliding with a parked car. The suspect got out of the vehicle and fled the location.
The suspect did not get any money from the driver, and is described as a female Black, 20 to 25 years-old, wearing a brown knit hat, and light colored hoodie sweatshirt. The victim was treated at the scene for a cut he sustained to his hand during the struggle, and then released.
The taxi cab was equipped with interior audio and video, which allowed the crime to be captured on video, and detectives are hoping that anyone who recognizes the suspect, or has information in regards to her whereabouts, will come forward.
Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact Long Beach Police Robbery Detective Fermin Gonzalez at (562) 570-7464
