DC examining moving power lines underground

Posted: Updated:
WASHINGTON, DC -

It's a problem all over our area, massive power outages when storms pass through. But in the district there is a billion dollar plan on the table to fix some of the power problems.

Officials say by moving power lines underground they won't be damaged by Mother Nature. The first public hearing on this plan was Monday.

The estimates on this huge project will cost from 900-million to 1 billion dollars. Many are saying yes, we want improved services, but how much is my monthly bill going up?

And how will this project affect local businesses and roadways?

If approved by the council, this major project will take many years to complete. Officials believe it will improve outages to those major lines by 95 percent keeping the lights on even if there is another massive storm hits.
