Carol Burnett awarded Mark Twain prize for American Humor at Kennedy Center

WASHINGTON, DC -

She is a comic legend, admired by legions of fans, recipient of numerous Emmy awards and tonight, the Kennedy Center awarded Carol Burnett with the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor.

A star-studded list of comics turned out to pay tribute, including Martin Short, Vicki Lawrence, Tina Fey, and Amy Poehler.

The Carol Burnett Show aired for 11 years, one of the most honored variety shows on television, in which the whacky Burnett introduced a seemingly endless list of outrageous characters.

On the red carpet at the Kennedy Center this evening her colleagues in comedy lauded her as the Queen of comedy and a wonderful person.

Singer Tony Bennett noted her fans adore her.
