A Glendale Police officer who was responding to a call with lights and sirens on was hit by an SUV Friday night.
Police say that the police unit was heading southbound on 67th Ave and negotiating a red light when it was struck by a black SUV going eastbound on Union Hills.
The driver of the SUV apparently didn't see the police unit.
"His patrol vehicle emergency overhead lights were activated as he approached and came to a stop at the intersection. Utilizing his patrol vehicle siren, the officer entered the intersection. An SUV... entered the intersection at the approximately the same time traveling eastbound on Union Hills Drive. As a result, the two vehicles collided," stated Glendale Police Officer Tracey Breeden.
There were three people in the SUV -- an adult male driver, adult female passenger, and a child -- and one person was transported with minor injuries. The officer was also transported to the hospital with minor injuries.
The intersection is closed for the investigation.
Speed and impairment do not appear to be factors in the collision, Breeden added.
