HIGHLAND PARK, Mich. (WJBK) -

A 20-year-old female was walking home in Highland Park Wednesday night, near John R. Road, when she was allegedly assaulted and raped.

She was leaving a friend's house and walking back to her father's house when she says she was approached by two men in a burgundy car. Police say one of the men punched her in the face before raping her. The incident took place around 7:30 p.m.

"My greatest concern is that my granddaughter be able to come out of this ok, and that they catch the guy that did it so that he won't harm anybody else," the victim's grandmother, Geneva Watson, tells Fox 2's Randy Wimbley.

Highland Park police say roughly a dozen rapes have taken place so far this year.

Watson went to the hospital with her granddaughter and stayed with her for hours. In spite of this traumatizing event, the victim and her family are counting their blessings.

"I know God is able, and I know he spared her life," Watson says. But the family is ready to see justice be served. "I know you're going to hell somehow, because really, when you do wrong it's going to come back. It's going to come back one way or the other. They're going to get it because they're out here preying on these young people."

Police describe the suspect as a dark-skinned black male with a gray beard. They say he is about five feet nine inches tall and weighs approximately 180 pounds. If you have any information about what happened Wednesday night contact Highland Park police.
