Honor Flight veterans return from DC visit

PHOENIX -

Now that the shutdown is over, national parks and other monuments are back open. A lot was made when those landmarks closed their doors at the start of the shutdown.

Some had traveled thousands of miles to visit some of those famous sites.

That included some valley veterans from World War II who weren't about to let the shutdown keep them from visiting a monument that was dedicated to their service.

About a dozen vets were greeted with applause as they returned home to Sky Harbor today.

This group spent the past few days taking in the sights of the nation's capital, including the World War II memorial.

Their trip was made possible by the "Honor Flight Network," a group that gets veterans to Washington DC so they can visit their memorial.

And these vets say the trip was well worth it.

Some of these vets say they never would have been able to visit the World War II memorial had it not been for the efforts of the Honor Flight Network.
