Hatfield Police Report Attempted Child Luring

Posted: Updated:
HATFIELD TOWNSHIP, Pa. -

In a neighborhood where everyone knows everyone, David Saldana knew something wasn't right.

"He was moving so slowly through the neighborhood and I don't know why it caught my attention it was just unusual," Saldana said.

It turns out it's the man Hatfield Township Police are now looking for.

Police say the man tried to lure a 9-year-old boy into his maroon work van, before the boy turned around and ran away.

Amy Schroeder also saw the van.

"I got my phone out because I wanted to take a picture of it and he sees me and he peels out across the street and speeds away without even stopping," Schroeder said.

It happened about 10:15 Monday morning on Wheatfield Circle when many kids were out of school for Columbus Day. Luckily the boy did exactly what he should have done.

"He went to his caregiver and said what happened and immediately went to an adult that he could trust," Officer Patrick Hanrahan of Hatfield Police said.

"There's kids around constantly and it's just frightening," a parent said.

Parents here say they'll be talking to their kids about what happened, because even in a seemingly safe neighborhood filled with families this proves it can happen anywhere.

"It's terrifying to think you could let them out and not get them back," Schroeder said.

"If you are not paying attention it could be your kids or someone else's kids in your neighborhood," David Saldana said.

Police say they are looking for a male in this 30's. He has a salt and pepper goatee, and he was driving that maroon work van with no side windows, and damage to the front driver's side fender.

If you know this person or have any information, call Hatfield Police at 215-855-0903.

    NICE EASTER WEEKEND

The first half of the holiday weekend has been great and Easter Sunday looks just as nice. Clouds thin out late tonight with temperatures falling back to the 40s.

Initially it'll be jacket weather early Sunday morning but plenty of sunshine will warm us into the 60s by afternoon.  High temperatures will be a few degrees cooler than Saturday.

It will be noticeably cooler and breezy at the shore with highs in the low 50s.  Quiet conditions continue into Monday.
