GERMANTOWN, Md. -
Montgomery County Police spent the afternoon combing through a murder scene in search of clues.
Next to an apartment complex, many who live in this Germantown community are shocked by the daylight shooting.
"This is pretty strange. I've seen a lot here over the years but nothing like a killing here," explains Dale Hensley who has live in the area for more than 25 years.
According to police, shortly before 8 this morning a 49 year old woman was found lying in the middle of the road on the 19700 block of Crystal Rock Drive. Suffering from at least one gunshot wound she was rushed to the hospital where she later died. Neighbors say they're scared, one woman who lived near the scene, asked us not to use her name.
"I don't know who this person is, I don't know if they live in the area, and I do, and I don't want them to know I have any knowledge of what they did or how it happened."
Waking up to gunshots this morning she says the murder has her looking for a new, safer place to live.
"It's scary because I am in her age group and I could be walking to the gym and it could have potentially been me."
The murder happened right across the street from a busy convenience store. Police are hoping someone saw something, even if at the time it seemed inconsequential, it could help provide some answers.
Police say they are checking with area businesses for surveillance video and spent part of the day speaking to neighbors. For now though they have no suspect information or motive.
