O'Malley discusses work on health care website

Posted: Updated:
ANNAPOLIS, Md. -

Gov. Martin O'Malley says Maryland probably will be working on various glitches in the state's online marketplace for health insurance for as long as another month and a half, but improvements are being made every day.

The governor spoke Friday about progress on improving Maryland Health Connection, the online portal where people can shop for health plans and enroll in them. It ran into problems when it opened Oct. 1.

O'Malley says about 1,000 people have enrolled in a plan. But he says it's not unexpected that enrollments would be low now, as people focus on shopping around. The governor also underscored that coverage won't begin until January, so there is plenty of time for people to enroll.

The state says more than 25,000 people have created accounts.
