New Video Shows Blind Man's Alleged Attacker

PHILADELPHIA -

On the streets of Germantown there's no love lost for the guy who carried out the beating of a defenseless blind man at the corner of Wayne Avenue and Seymour Street last week. People here are outraged.

"Gotta be a dog, know what I mean," neighbor Michael Brown told Fox 29. "It don't make no sense. They don't care nothing about people

"Why would you pick on somebody who's blind," another neighbor said.

The beating was caught on police surveillance cameras at the corner, but now Fox 29 has obtained more surveillance video captured inside the store adjacent to the crime scene.

The man is responsible for the beating the 33-year-old victim last Wednesday while people just stood by and watched. No one tried to help the victim or stop the suspect.

"It don't make any sense, somebody should have said something," Brown added.

"What's the matter with the other people, what's the matter with the other people," Michael Thomas said.

Detectives went store to store Wednesday searching for more video of the man as he walked away from the crime scene. Fox 29 obtained more video from nearby stores showing the man as he escaped.

He went down the block, then through this lot and he disappear into the neighborhood.

"I think they need to be locked up or electrocuted," one resident told Fox 29.

"I don't want him in our neighborhood and he needs to see the same fate," Thomas added.

Michael Brown lives right around the corner from where the man was beaten, he condemned the beating and says someone should have stepped up to help the man or call police.

"You're not supposed to treat a human being like that," he said.

"Call 9-1-1, interfere, let the people know this is not going to be tolerated in the neighborhood," Thomas said.

"People should be helping people," another man said.

"You shouldn't be afraid to walk down the street," Thomas said.

Police are still tracking down leads in the case and looking at more surveillance hoping it leads them to the suspect. There is no arrest at this point.

Anyone with information in the attack or the suspect should call 215.686.TIPS (8477) or text a tip to PPD TIP or 773847.
