ALEXANDRIA, Va. -

The motive is unknown, but a young teen, believed to be 17 or 18 years old, was viciously stabbed when two groups of youths fought outside the Woodmont Park Apartments in Alexandria Tuesday evening.

Alexandria police have arrested 18-year-old Farouq Abdullahi and charged him with malicious wounding.

Witnesses say the victim was with several of his friends near a walking trail behind the apartments when the second group jumped out of a car and started beating on them. One of them pulled out a knife.

According to a witness, he stabbed the young man in the stomach and the arm.

Police responded to the scene, but the groups fled the area.

The victim was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Some area residents speculated the altercation stemmed from a beef that started earlier in school.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Alexandria police at 703-746-6711.
