Police: Teen crashed into Taco Bell four times

Posted: Updated:
DULUTH, Ga. -

Police say a teen was behind the wheel of a car that crashed into a Duluth Taco Bell restaurant four times early Sunday morning.  The driver faces a number of charges, including driving under the influence.

According to Gwinnett County police, an officer on patrol near Pleasant Hill Road and Satellite Boulevard heard screeching tired and woman yelling for help around 12:30 a.m. A police report says 19-year-old Armando Lupercio of Duluth had driven his pickup truck off the road-- crashing into a tree, continuing on through a parking lot and right into a Taco Bell.  But that wasn't all.

The officer who responded to the scene reported seeing Lupercio drive around the corner of the restaurant, where he crashed into the building again.   Then, he backed up, hitting the Taco Bell for a third time. There were two women and an officer in the drive-thru lane when Lupercio took off in the truck again, hitting the woman's car before making a sharp left into the building-- for the fourth time.

The officer reported that Lupercio continued to rev his engine before the officer drew his weapon, and managed to get Lupercio out of the vehicle.

According to the police report, Lupercio told the officer, "I'm sorry, but the gas pedal was stuck."

The officer reported that Lupercio smelled of alcohol and his eyes were glazed over. A breathalyzer test was administered to Lupercio at a Gwinnett County police precinct, and he registered a 0.142 blood alcohol level, which is well above the legal limit of 0.08.

Lupercio was arrested and faces charges that include driving under the influence, possession of alcohol by a minor, first-degree criminal damage to property, aggravated assault, improper lane change and hit and run.  He was being held in the Gwinnett County Jail on $47,600 bond as of Monday.
