LAKE ORION, Mich. (WJBK) -

Deputies have returned a West Point Academy class ring to its owner, Ben Hockenberry, after it was stolen from a country club locker room.

The ring was stolen in August of this year from the Indianwood Country Club in Lake Orion. Hockenberry says his wedding ring, watch and wallet were also gone.

"I was quite surprised. It just was very unexpected to see that. You leave your stuff in there, and you don't expect it to be gone," Hockenberry tells Fox 2.

A man was arrested later that week who was also suspected in a similar country club robbery in Northville. After some questioning, authorities were able to locate and recover the ring, which has Hockenberry's name engraved on it, about a month later.

The suspect then pled guilty in Wayne County Circuit Court to four felony counts of larceny and fraudulent use of a credit card.

Hockenberry is a 1995 graduate of West Point and says the ring is very meaningful to him. "It's something that all the graduates of the military academies have in common. They refer to the graduates of West Point as the 'long gray line', so I wear it not only to show my pride as a graduate but also to honor those that came before me," he says.

Hockenberry served as a Military Police Officer in the Army until 2000.
