Arizona's first flu case of season is confirmed

Posted: Updated:

PHOENIX (AP) - Health officials say they've confirmed Arizona's first case of the flu this season.

They say the infected person is a Maricopa County child who wasn't vaccinated and was diagnosed with influenza B.

The child wasn't hospitalized.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has recommended that everyone about 6 months and older should get the flu vaccine.

Arizona had more than 11,000 lab-confirmed flu cases last year and officials say four children died from influenza.
