Woman charged with DUI in I-57 crash that left eight injured

A woman has been charged with DUI for a rollover crash that critically injured eight people, including 8-month-old twins and four other children, Sunday night on I-57 on the Far South Side, authorities said.

The crash occurred about 9:30 p.m. when a minivan hit a guardrail and rolled over in the southbound lanes of I-57 near 111th Street about 9:30 p.m., police and Fire Media Affairs said.

Alexis Y. Green, 22, has been charged with DUI and child endangerment, according to Illinois State Police.

Four people were taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, two in critical condition and two in serious condition; two were taken to University of Chicago Hospitals in critical condition; and two were taken to Little Company of Mary Hospital and Health Care Centers in Evergreen Park in serious condition, according to Fire Media Affairs.

The other children injured were 2, 4, 5 and 7, police said.
