Firefighter hospitalized after South Side blaze

CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

A Saturday morning fire in the Englewood neighborhood left one Chicago firefighter seriously hurt.

The fire broke out about 6:30 a.m. in a 1 1/2 story building in the 6700 block of South Emerald Avenue, according to Fire Media Affairs.

The firefighter was taken to University of Chicago Hospitals in serious condition, fire officials said.

Crews were still working to extinguish the fire as of 7:10 a.m.
